Exergetic System Approach

LOWEX NL

Exergetic system approach for an efficient, people-friendly and affordable use of energy in the built environment

The LOWEX NL project is a research project financed within the EOS LT (“Energie Onderzoek Subsidie – Langer Termijn” ) programme of Senternovem. The project is carried out by the 3TU federation: Delft University of Technology, University of Twente and Eindhoven University of Technology.

The concept of LowEx stands for low exergy. It is an internationally used concept which mainly focuses on the reduction of exergy losses and the use of low valued energy as a resource. This has shown to be a useful method to reduce the need for energy resources. The term “system” in this research refers to energy supply systems of buildings.

The aim of the project is to contribute to a substantial reduction of the use of high quality energy resources in the built environment, looking at the three important aspects of sustainability: people, planet and profit.

The project is part of the Dutch contribution to the IEA Annex 49 “Low Energy Systems for High Performance Building s and Communities”. The project also participates in the Euopean research C24 (COSTeXergy).
